Totally Tubular Summer!
One of the marvels of the Town of Lake Cowichan is the Cowichan River which winds its way through town. Boasting clear water and a lazy current, the river is the perfect place to grab a tube and enjoy a relaxing float to the end of town. The Tube Shack, Lake Cowichan’s tube rental company, provides not only tubes and a shuttle service, but free river-safe sunscreen to protect our delicate fish ecosystems.
With COVID-19, the Tube Shack has updated its policies in order to protect residents and staycationers. Reservations must be made online (cowichanriver.com), and there is a limit to the number of tubers per hour—plus the shuttle is sanitized after each use. This makes tubing the perfect activity to beat the heat safely.
Offering additional ways to help staycationers, the Cowichan Lake Visitor Centre’s Wandering Wagon is making its rounds in the Cowichan Lake area. Managed by two knowledgeable youth ambassadors, this wagon is packed full of information to help staycationers have the best possible time in the area, while staying safe. Keep your eye out for it next time you’re in the area and help yourself to a map of beaches, trailheads, and campsites.
